How may years have you raised Dutch?
Less than 1 year
What recognized varieties do you raise?
Chocolate
What non-recognized varieties do you own?
When using other breeds of rabbits in the development of these new colors, it will take many years to get animals that consistently show a good Dutch type. What about the colors we could have just crossing the varieties we already have? Lilac Dutch for example were very popular back in the days of the AOV class.
As a very new breeder to Dutch (I have experience with Mini Rex however) I find that the limited colors are both a hindrance and a help when starting a herd. I don't think that adding in colors that the dutch breed produces already would hinder the breed, and I know in my case it would have helped.  I am very interested in lilacs, but don't feel that right now is the time to pursue that interest due to limited cage space and the fact that lilacs aren't showable.  However when I was looking for my trio to start, having the freedom to breed to another color than chocolate (such as blue) would have gotten my heard started sooner and I think it could expand other breeders herds.
If we start adding new colors of Dutch to the Standard will we get carried away with the entire thing? for example, the Netherland Dwarfs and Mini-Rex. Will this benefit our club or the Dutch breed?
I think getting to the point of the mini-rex/netherland colors would not benefit Dutch,  when I bred mini rex one of my biggest problems is I could not decide a color to concentrate on, and I wasn't sure what was breedable to other colors, which lead to a few interesting results. However it was very overwhelming as a new breeder and one of the reasons I switched to Dutch, with its more limited colors.
Will the Chinchilla Dutch complement the Gray and/or Steel varieties? This would still need to be proven.
I do not know
Would the Red Dutch complement any other colors?
I do not know enough about reds to comment
Instead of adding more classes of Dutch to be judged, would it be better to have an agouti class in place of the Gray?
At many shows the number of Steels shown is not very good. Will more colors hurt the Steel numbers even more? Plus will it add to having more varieties with poor showings?
Having more colors of Dutch may just add interest from people who haven't raised Dutch before.
This statement I do have to say is probably true.  I really like the dutch pattern, however with the limited color choices and limited breeding opportunities it took me roughly 4 months to get my herd started, which was very discouraging as a new breeder.  If the dutch had a few more colors (colors that the Dutch produce anyway, without bringing in other breeds, such as Lilac, and the dilute steel colors) It would open up some color choices for new breeders, make it easier to get quality dutch who would breed well together and I think in the end make Dutch a fuller, more compatible breed.
