How may years have you raised Dutch?
4 to 8 years
What recognized varieties do you raise?
Chocolate
What non-recognized varieties do you own?
Chocolate Agouti
When using other breeds of rabbits in the development of these new colors, it will take many years to get animals that consistently show a good Dutch type. What about the colors we could have just crossing the varieties we already have? Lilac Dutch for example were very popular back in the days of the AOV class.
I do not like the idea of crossing to other breeds to introduce a color, but I know that it is often done.
If we start adding new colors of Dutch to the Standard will we get carried away with the entire thing? for example, the Netherland Dwarfs and Mini-Rex. Will this benefit our club or the Dutch breed?
I do not think so.  I think that it could spark more interest.
Will the Chinchilla Dutch complement the Gray and/or Steel varieties? This would still need to be proven.
Chinchilla Dutch will compliment the Steel variety but not the Gray variety.  The Chinchilla will introduce the silver steel coloring that the SOP calls for.
Would the Red Dutch complement any other colors?
Genetically YES.  The only difference between a Tort and a Red is that the Tort is self based and the Red is agouti based.  In other words Tort = aaB-C-D-ee and the Red = A-B-C-D-ee.
I thought that Gold = Red.
Instead of adding more classes of Dutch to be judged, would it be better to have an agouti class in place of the Gray?
This would not be a bad idea.  The Rex club is doing that with their Otters right now.  All 4 colors show together.  That will keep the quality up on all of the colors.
At many shows the number of Steels shown is not very good. Will more colors hurt the Steel numbers even more? Plus will it add to having more varieties with poor showings?
I think that one of the reasons that there are not a lot of Steels shown is that breeders do not understand their genetics and so do not know how to consistently produce them.
Having more colors of Dutch may just add interest from people who haven't raised Dutch before.
This is true.  In our case, my daughter is crossing Grays with her Chocolates in order to produce Chocolate Agoutis (we call them Ambers).  So, if Chocolate Agoutis were showable in the future then they would be compatible with the Chocolates for breeding.
