How may years have you raised Dutch?
Over 15 years
What recognized varieties do you raise?
Black, Blue, Chocolate
What non-recognized varieties do you own?
When using other breeds of rabbits in the development of these new colors, it will take many years to get animals that consistently show a good Dutch type. What about the colors we could have just crossing the varieties we already have? Lilac Dutch for example were very popular back in the days of the AOV class.
Lilac Dutch should already be a standardized color, given we recognize Chocolates.
If we start adding new colors of Dutch to the Standard will we get carried away with the entire thing? for example, the Netherland Dwarfs and Mini-Rex. Will this benefit our club or the Dutch breed?
No, controlled, reasonable growth expanding color that will enhance or improve those that we already recognize.
Will the Chinchilla Dutch complement the Gray and/or Steel varieties? This would still need to be proven.
Absolutely, the proof is in the breeds that have the Chinchilla variety.  If anything, we should have the Chinchilla Dutch instead of the Gray if Steel is a standardized color.  The Original Dutch Standard required silver steels, not gold steels.
Would the Red Dutch complement any other colors?
I would be excited about the Red Dutch only if we could get the color to the richness of the Thrianta, not sorrel or sooty.  I do not know the genotype of the Thrianta to know if it could contribute to already standardized colors.
Instead of adding more classes of Dutch to be judged, would it be better to have an agouti class in place of the Gray?
NO
At many shows the number of Steels shown is not very good. Will more colors hurt the Steel numbers even more? Plus will it add to having more varieties with poor showings?
No, I see the Chinchilla Dutch increasing the Steel numbers!  I will start raising them if we can get the actual color required by our standard, silver steels....
Having more colors of Dutch may just add interest from people who haven't raised Dutch before.
Perhaps... certainly would expand the base of colors we have to offer.  I don't see us ever adding Siamese Sable or Smoke Pearl, but if you offer more options you may get more interest.  The example of Mini Rex and Netherland Dwarf colors was used as a negative, but last time I checked, Mini Rex are number one and Netherland Dwarf numbers are usually in the top three....
