How may years have you raised Dutch? |
1 to 3 years |
What recognized varieties do you raise? |
Black, Blue, Chocolate, Gray, Steel, Tortoise |
What non-recognized varieties do you own? |
blue gray |
When using other breeds of rabbits in the development of these new colors, it will take many years to get animals that consistently show a good Dutch type. What about the colors we could have just crossing the varieties we already have? Lilac Dutch for example were very popular back in the days of the AOV class. |
I think that it would be fine to cross showable colors to try to get an unrecognized color such as Blue Gray or Lilac. I just has my first blue gray from a litter out of 2 parents that are recognized colors, and I think that it is a very appealing and pretty color. |
If we start adding new colors of Dutch to the Standard will we get carried away with the entire thing? for example, the Netherland Dwarfs and Mini-Rex. Will this benefit our club or the Dutch breed? |
I would like to see the Dutch club add more colors to make for more of a variety to chose from. My sister raises Mini Rex, so I have watched a lot of Mini Rex judging and I think it is nice to have a big variety of colors to chose from to raise. I think that this would benefit the Dutch club and the breed itself. |
Will the Chinchilla Dutch complement the Gray and/or Steel varieties? This would still need to be proven. |
I think that they could be compatible colors to breed together, but I don't know if they would or would not help the Gray or Steel ring color. |
Would the Red Dutch complement any other colors? |
I really don't know much about red Dutch genetics to answer that question. |
Instead of adding more classes of Dutch to be judged, would it be better to have an agouti class in place of the Gray? |
I think that Grays or any other colors should be judged with their own color as far as individual varsities go. I think that grouping the agouti varieties together would give the less popular varieties such as Steels and Chinchillas not as good of a chance of winning. I also think that this would result in poorer showings of those colors and maybe even Gray. |
At many shows the number of Steels shown is not very good. Will more colors hurt the Steel numbers even more? Plus will it add to having more varieties with poor showings? |
I don't think that it would hurt the show numbers of Steels. If a person likes Steels they are going to do them and if they don't like the color they won't do them. Once the new colors become recognized, I think that they should build up popularity, and should be well represented on the show table. |
Having more colors of Dutch may just add interest from people who haven't raised Dutch before. |
I think that this could be a helper. If a person saw a certain variety(s) stand out to them I think that it could help to encourage more interest in the breed. But most of it is the person has to like the Dutch breed itself. |
